Worship
a rich liturgical
tradition
Worship at St. Barnabas embraces the rich liturgical tradition
of the Anglican Church. So that the worship experience is
accessible to those are not familiar with the Episcopal worship
books, the liturgy and hymns are printed in a weekly bulletin.
the
liturgy
The liturgical tradition of worship follows a four-fold pattern:
The Gathering
We come together from all of our different homes and places to
sing together and pray
The Word
We hear words of scripture from the Old Testament, the Psalms,
and the New Testament. Commentary on the scriptures is shared in
the Sermon
The Meal
We share a very simply meal of bread and wine, believing that
the Way of Jesus is made real to us in our eating and drinking
together.
The Sending
We are sent into the world to continue to be people of faith in
our daily lives.
the eucharist: join us
at the table
The Meal of Communion is Christianity's most important sacrament
and we believe that, "all who seek God are welcome at the Lord's
Table to receive the bread and wine. Even if you do not seek God
you are still welcome because God seeks you. Come and hold in
your hand and taste on your lips the love, which we cannot
understand.
a confluence of
traditions
St. Barnabas is a community of individuals who come together
from a variety of backgrounds and traditions to worship and
support one another. We recognize that individuals may find
different postures best fit their traditions and enhance their
experience. For example, at St. Barnabas you are welcome to
receive Communion kneeling or standing at the altar. If you are
unable to come forward we can bring the sacraments to you at
your seat. In addition, members of the congregation bring
Communion to the homes of those who are unable to attend the
Sunday service.
